Fluency is a critical skill that does not develop overnight. A great deal of reading practice is necessary for a student to become fluent.
At Evan-Moor, educators will discover an array of building reading fluency resources that will have students from grades pre-kindergarten through grade six reading with confidence. Choose from research-based titles like Building Frequency, Readers Theater, Retelling Tales with Headbands, Phonics Games and more. Each title is available in either a print or e-book edition, letting teachers decide on the ideal format for their classroom. Individual student books along with five-book class packs are also on hand for purchase.
Evan-Moor’s fluency building resources are designed to target a child’s fluency through fun activities and texts. Students will read both fiction and non-fiction selection along with songs, rhymes and chants that aide in word recognition and help to increase reading fluency. Having students act out selections using Reader’s Theater and Retelling Tales with Headbands is a fun and exciting way to teach kids how to read with expression.
Hearing teachers read with expression also gets students to do the same. Building Fluency texts contain grade-level appropriate, poems, songs, rhymes, chants, plays and texts that are perfect for choral reading. In choral reading, the teacher typically reads a selection first and then students and teachers read the text or poem together as a group. Phonics Games contains center ideas for up to six students.
