Product reviews for Daily 6-Trait Writing, Grade 4 - Student Workbook

I have a small group class and these are perfect.  I preview the skills covered each week in class, and kids complete the daily tasks at home.  They like that they are short and can be done in a few minutes each day, and we check them when they come back the next week.  They also like having their own books (not to mention these save me time and money I might otherwise spend on making copies) and they are much more affordable than many books out there.  The 5th day writing prompts are not that creative or interesting, but I sometimes substitute their topics for my own.

We use this in our homeschool academy classes and it is such a solid product that builds confidence in young writers.

Works well when teaching my state standards

We use Daily Trait for homeschool and so far so good. I love that it is helping my duaghter learn to be more descriptive. Love that it does't take long. Love how easy it is to use. and the price was right. Its been a bonus for our homeschool experience.

My students prefer this book because there are plenty of examples.  This helps them to better understand how and why they need to write.

I bought this to make planning for multiple grade levels & instructional levels easier. I use it with the writing a good sentence book for my writing work.

I love the entire Evan-Moor "daily" series! And the Daily 6-Trait Writing is my favorite so far. It is so easy to use at home with my home schooled second grader.

This book provides great teaching points for kids that are easy to understand. I love how the book covers the different traits. Definitely suggest this for the classroom!

My kids hate to write. I got this book and we do 2 pages a day. It gets them thinking, writing and spelling. I like the fact it makes writing enjoyable while they are learning skills.

I use this product when introducing a style. It is a great start and introduction, but doesn't go very deep or allow for continual practice.

We use this for a homeschool supplement along with nearly all the other daily workbooks. I love that it teaches my children how to be great descriptive writers!

I have purchased many Evan-Moor products in the past and this is the only one that leaves me disappointed. Many of the "Daily" ebooks can be projected onto an interactive whiteboard and the students can come to the board to share their answers. However, this has one page a day and you are not able to project the whole thing. There isn't even one to project on Friday. I recommend the daily geography or the daily language instead.

I started using this book with my 3rd grade class after the Christmas break. Because I started it so late in the year, I didn't follow the same order of the book and instead used the first week of each unit and then returned for the second and so on. After just the first 2 weeks (1 of ideas and 1 of organisation), there was a massive improvement in the children's writing. The most noticeable was how they were starting the writing pieces and their choice if vocabulary. I'm really looking forward to introducing this at the very beginning of next year and seeing the impact it will have that way.

I use this product as a supplement and reinforcement for my six traits writing instruction done with mini lessons and writing assignments throughout the year. I don' t use all the lessons, or in the order that they are written in the book, but it works well to pick and chose the activities that work with the traits we are working on.

I've used the Daily Writing as paper & pencil homework for my 6-9 Montessori classroom for both 2nd and 3rd graders. It's a great way to make sure we're meeting the Common Core standards in the Montessori Charter School environment. The kids enjoy the small group lessons and checking work together. Would highly recommend.

This program is ideal for daily writing practice. it covers all 6 writing traits and keeps students engaged. It offers many possible lessons. The bonus- it doesn't require extra prep time.

As a new 5th grade teacher , product was extremely useful in helping me teach all aspects of the writing process. I highly recommend its use in the classroom.

Product was easy to download and quality is high. The format of daily work scaffolds to a larger weekly assignment. There is also an element of editing incorporated into the daily assignments to allow authentic practice. I primarily used the Level 4 version of this book in my 4th grade class, but kept this edition as a 5th grade option for my advanced writers. Teacher directions for each day's assignment are very clear, and I liked the structure. There is a good variety of writing prompts, and the final pieces at the ends of each week are open-ended enough so that you can assess differences/weaknesses/strengths in individual students.

This book has made teaching writing so much easier because it gives a daily writing lesson, covers all traits, is scripted for the teacher, and has great writing ideas for papers.

great for the smart board (e-book) version

The 6 trait writing resources are easy to use and allow you to introduce a large variety of writing grammar & mechanics. Advanced organizers are offered, as well as, sample stories to get things jump started. All the teachers in grades 1-4 in my school have used it for the last 2-3 years with good success. The only downside is a few of the topics don't engage students, but that is easily remedied by skipping to another lesson. Writing can be more difficult to teach and this resource offers a nice, easy to follow structure.

I use this in the morning to start my day. I like that it is structured.

I make packets of work for the week. Put this in those.

I used it as supplement to introduce specific traits to be put in writing assignments.

Very helpful and good value for the money

I do not have a writing curriculum and this is the product I use with my special education students. The visuals and the layout of the pages are great! The topics are engaging and it is very easy to follow. It has improved my students writing and I would use it again in the future.

I use it with my students in Brazil. I love the way things are explained directly to the heart of the matter, in a simple and easy language. It would be wonderful if we had this material in our mother language (Brazilian Portuguese).

Kids really enjoy writing with this book. Daily lessons are short, so students are not overwhelmed.

This resousce has been a valuable tool for my special education students. The directions are easy for my students to read and apply the technique to their own writing responses. I espically like how the lessons lightly weave other aspects of writing in wih the lessons. My students are fucused and quiet when they do the worksheets. Best of all they discuss, among themselves, what they wrote about.

My children have decided that these workbooks are a lot more enjoyable than the other work we do.

I like the quick mini lessons.

I am a music teacher who was asked to incorporate English RTI lessons into my 7th grade band and chorus rehearsals this year. The E-book was the answer and a complete lifesaver for me. I can project it on the screen, the students are interested and engaged, and their writing samples have all improved in the short time since we started using it. I love that the lessons are sequential, efficient, and require almost no prep time from me.

Gives great language to describe the traits! However, students do not write a published piece.

This is a great review of the 6+1 traits that our grades twos have learned earlier in the year. Some of the activities take a little longer but for the most part it's a great 5 minute daily review.

The paragraphs that the students edit are well-structured to help them develop the targeted skills. I actually begin with Sentence Fluency because that is the most difficult skill for my students. We continue all year to build on the sentence fluency foundation they developed using 6 Traits.

I found the pages very kid friendly. They were uncluttered and easy to read. The students in my class had no problem in completing the assignments.

The "Daily" books (math, writing, language) have been more of a teaching tool than practice because they provide ample instructions, are easy to use and most important to us they are segmented so that each day is not an overwhelming amount of work. My son, who could not write at all using the traditional writing curriculums, is now able to break a writing assignment down into segments to complete it because he has learned how from the "Daily Practice" books!
