I am homeschooling my science loving daughter and using this as our formal science instruction. I don't believe this is intended to be a complete program, but it covers the basics very well and leaves room for her to explore her own ideas and questions - of which she always has many! We generally do further reading on the topic or watch videos to learn more. She often expands upon the activities in this book, or is inspired by them to conduct her own experiments. For example: during the unit on sound, we researched how vocal chords work after she exclaimed, "When you talk, you are making vibrations come out of your mouth!". During the next lesson in the same unit she spent well over an hour creating various kinds of instruments as an extension of one of the experiments. I always save these lessons for last, knowing they may end up taking much longer than expected because she is so engaged. The more extensive programs we've tried seemed to get in the way of her curiosity, and in the end, she remembered less with them than she is with Skill Sharpeners. The pages are very visually appealing and the quality of the book is very good. I also love that the experiments don't tend to require a ton materials that I don't normally have on hand at home. I intend to use the next level in our schooling next year.
