Evan-Moor's New Leveled Readers' Theater Helps Grades 1–6+ Teachers Differentiate Reading Instruction

Dramatic reading experiences provide an easy, effective way to help students build fluency and comprehension.

MONTEREY, CALIF. (November 10, 2008) - Evan-Moor Educational Publishers introduces Leveled Readers' Theater, a series of six titles for grades 1-6+ designed to help students build reading fluency and comprehension. The creative, delightfully-illustrated scripts provide lively dramatic reading experiences that motivate all levels of students. Each script features parts for students reading below, on, or above grade level, helping teachers support the many levels of readers within today's diverse classrooms.

As identified by the National Reading Panel, fluency is a key component of reading instruction because of its impact on students' reading comprehension. The research-based and classroom-tested Leveled Readers' Theater format provides a platform for fun, repeated practice that's essential to building reading fluency. Students are actively engaged as they take on vigorous and creative roles such as famous fairy tale characters competing in a game show, rebellious pets causing mischief in their dog-training classes, stubborn kids who don't want to clean their room, and much more.

"Because of the opportunities it creates for motivating and repeated reading practice, readers' theater has always been a powerful tool in helping students build fluency," said Evan-Moor Publisher and Co-founder, Joy Evans. "Leveled Readers' Theater takes the already-successful readers' theater format and applies a range of ability levels so teachers can accommodate the multiple levels of readers within one classroom."

Each book in the series is leveled in accordance with the widely respected Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading criteria to help teachers effectively match selections to students' abilities. Teachers are also supported by step-by-step teaching guidelines, a student dictionary page for introducing new vocabulary, student scripts, and follow-up activities that include comprehension and vocabulary practice.

Grades 1–6+ teachers can use the scripts based on engaging, relevant topics to help motivate reluctant readers, provide fluent readers with the opportunity to explore and enjoy a variety of genres and characters, and to present English language learners with a reading experience that increases confidence while building important reading skills.

Available in January 2009, each grade-level edition contains 160 reproducible pages and is priced at $21.99.
