Evan-Moor's Early Childhood Thematic Units Help Teach Key Early Learning Concepts

New 'All About' series presents skill-based activities revolving around engaging themes

MONTEREY, CALIF. (June 1, 2005) - As the percentage of young children enrolled in early childhood education has skyrocketed, there is a growing need for resources that support reading readiness and other early learning skills. Evan-Moor Educational Publishers, a leading publisher of learning materials for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, introduces All About Early Childhood Thematic Units, a new 10-book series for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten learners.

The All About thematic units are designed for use in pre-schools, kindergarten classrooms, day care centers and at home. Each thematic unit - a course of study revolving around one topic - helps young children learn about themselves and the world around them. In the All About series, children explore themes around living things and nature, such as All About Insects, All About My Body, All About the Ocean, and All About the Weather.

"Children learn best through doing," said Bill Evans, CEO of Evan-Moor. "The thematic units engage children with stories presented around familiar themes followed by a variety of integrated learning activities. As a result, early learning encompasses multiple experiences across the curriculum. This gives learning a natural flow that is more meaningful to young children."

The All About thematic units provide teachers with ready-to-use activities and all the materials needed to create lessons and activities that foster learning and imagination. Each All About thematic unit is broken into five sections, each containing a full-color storybook that focuses on a different aspect of the central theme. The teacher can read this illustrated story during circle time, and then can create reproducible take-home versions of the story for each child.

For each of the five stories presented in every thematic unit, there are accompanying full-color storyboard pieces, a story comprehension page, reproducible language and math activity pages, and materials and instructions for creating learning centers. Teachers are also provided with a diverse selection of activities to conduct after each of the five stories, including an art project, cooking project, and a music or dramatic play activity.

Besides the reproducible materials that children can take home to share, the All About thematic units also contain a parent letter outlining what the students will learn.

Each of the ten titles in the All About thematic series contains 208 full-color, reproducible pages and retails for $21.99.
