Daily Summer Activities Keeps Learning Alive When School Is Out of Session

Evan-Moor Educational Publishers resource allows parents to create a learning environment at home

MONTEREY, CALIF. (Feb. 21, 2005) - According to the John Hopkins University's Center for Summer Learning, all young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer months. Parents looking to keep learning alive at home during summer vacation can turn to Daily Summer Activities, a series of resource books for PreK–5 from Evan-Moor Educational Publishers, a leading publisher of learning materials for kindergarten through sixth grade.

Developed by educators, Daily Summer Activities is designed to help children make a successful transition from one grade to the next. Using the resource books, children can practice age-appropriate activities in the major subject areas by completing 10 weekly units. Each unit provides two pages of short, focused practice for every day of the week.

"Many parents look for ways to support learning at home, especially during the summer, and short, focused practice on a regular basis is the best way to achieve that," said Bill Evans, Evan-Moor CEO. "Besides preventing summer learning loss, Daily Summer Activities builds the confidence of young learners, making those first few weeks in a new grade much less stressful."

Daily Summer Activities is filled with full-color, engaging activities in key subject areas, including reading, mathematics, spelling, handwriting, creative writing and geography. Parents can help children track their work and can encourage further learning opportunities using the certificate of completion, answer key, parent suggestions and summer reading list contained in each resource book.

Available from major booksellers and specialty stores, the Daily Summer Activities series includes six levels. Each resource book features 144 pages of age-appropriate activities for students moving from PreK–K, K–1, grades 1–2, 2–3, 3–4 and 4–5. Each title retails for $12.99.
