New Edition of Evan-Moor Building Spelling Skills: Daily Practice Help Grades 1–6 Teachers Plan Spelling Lessons
Updated books give teachers easier-to-use supplemental resources to increase students' spelling proficiency.
MONTEREY, CALIF. (June 1, 2007) - Evan-Moor announces the newly reformattedBuilding Spelling Skills: Daily Practice, a supplemental language arts series designed to help students increase spelling competency. Teachers in grades one through six will benefit from the addition of weekly lesson objectives and a new easier to use format.
"Spelling is a foundational skill for language arts success," said Bill Evans, CEO of Evan Moor. "Based on teacher input, we have updated the books so that they are easier for teachers to use in planning their weekly lesson objectives."
Each book in the new edition of Building Spelling Skills: Daily Practice contains 30 reproducible spelling units with grade-appropriate activities for daily practice. The unit spelling lists are comprised of words with common phonetic and structural elements, words with high utility for writing, and words that are commonly misspelled. Unit reproducibles include a form to spell and write the week's words and three practice pages that feature a variety of word study formats: word meaning, visual discrimination and memory, phonics, editing for spelling, and more.
For the teacher, Building Spelling Skills: Daily Practice also provides sentences for weekly dictation, spelling strategies, forms for testing and recordkeeping, and an answer key.
Elementary and middle school teachers find that daily spelling practice improves student assessment results and overall language arts skills. "I have used the Building Spelling Skills books with all my students for several years. Now we are using the series school-wide to help develop student's spelling skills in preparation for the required state writing test," said Cathy Lanford, a fourth grade teacher.
