Evan-Moor wins big at AEP - Golden Lamp Award for Hot Topics: High-Interest Reading and Distinguished Achievement Award for Word Family Stories and Activities
Instructional materials are voted top of class for elementary and middle school curricula.
MONTEREY, CALIF. (June 20, 2008) - Evan-Moor Educational Publishers announces that Hot Topics: High-Interest Reading is the proud winner of the Golden Lamp Award for instructional materials, one of educational publishing's highest honors. The award was presented Friday, June 6 at the annual award gala in Washington, D.C., hosted by The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP).
"We are very gratified to win this award, and it belongs as much to our teachers and customers as it does to us," said Bill Evans, CEO of Evan-Moor Educational Publishers. "Their feedback and support are an important component of our success in meeting the instructional needs of today's students."
Hot Topics: High-Interest Reading provides struggling readers in grades 4–8 with the inspiration and instruction they need to become successful lifetime readers. The dynamic reading selections and guided reading instruction within each Hot Topics classroom kit—A, B, and Science—help students develop important comprehension strategies, vocabulary, and a love for reading. Reading selections feature a mix of genres and real-world reading formats that expose students to a variety of texts and text features they'll encounter in all content areas and on state comprehension assessments.
A teacher's guide for each selection provides lesson plans that aid in the presentation of reading strategies, instructional prompts, and student reproducibles. Audio CDs give students who need extra support an opportunity to listen to recordings of the reading selections. By pairing a strong pedagogical foundation built on current research and engaging texts that motivate students to read, Hot Topics: High-Interest Reading has proven to be an effective resource for reading, ESL/ELL, and special education teachers.
AEP's chief executive officer, Charlene Gaynor, was impressed with the creative approach to teaching struggling readers. "It is exciting to see this industry begin to recognize and achieve its true potential in meeting the needs of today's schools."
Also recognized at the gala was Word Family Stories and Activities, which took home the 2008 Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Resources. This new series uses engaging reproducible stories and activities to help students make connections with word sounds and spelling patterns—an important aspect in early reading instruction.
