OUR HISTORY
Like most big ideas, Evan-Moor Educational Publishers started out small then grew.
More than 25 years ago, in a garage in North Hollywood, California, a small group
of family and friends joined together to create one book and one company.
Jo Ellen Moore and Joy Evans were team-teaching first grade at a Title 1 school when
they decided to put the ideas that worked for their students into a book. They combined
their efforts with Bill Evans (Joy's brother) to start Evan-Moor Educational Publishers.
Bill and Joy's parents, Olive and Earl, volunteered their garage as a warehouse and
shipping facility. Joy and Jo Ellen taught the first few years while Bill went to
school to get his law degree. The first sales team was led by Olive and Earl, who
visited local schools and teaching stores armed only with their recognizable red
blazers, a handful of books, and, of course, plenty of pride.
Today, more than 25 years later, Evan-Moor Educational Publishers operates with the
same family spirit and enthusiasm, but on a much larger scale. We now offer over
450 titles. Our materials can be found in over 1,500 educational and trade book
stores around the world. We mail over 2 million catalogs a year to schools and individual
teachers. Our offices are located in beautiful Monterey, California. And we continue
to meet the growing demands of teachers and educators with passion and energy by
developing new and innovative educational materials and resources every year.
